Gnomes have long been part of our popular culture. In fact, they’ve appeared in a variety of media ranging from television to movies to games. Despite their ubiquity, the humble garden gnome may be considered the forgotten man in the house. However, thanks to a recent surge in popularity, the gnome is back on the shopping list.

There are many different varieties of these diminutive creatures. While most are typically depicted in reclining positions, they can also be displayed in other manners. This probably has something to do with the prevalence of grotesques in the Renaissance period. Many wealthy landowners hired a hermit to live in their garden, and some emperors even had hermits in their villa. Eventually, gnomes gained in popularity, especially after the advent of the Disney animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in the 1930s.

In addition to the standard gnomes, the company also offers Gnome Chomsky the Garden Noam, which stands over a foot tall and contains a number of carved out features. This version of the gnome features a gnome sized book atop an authoritative pillar, as well as a small but meaningful political statement. Obviously, this is a limited edition gnome, so you might not find it in your local hardware store.

On top of the Gnome Chomsky the Garden Noam, the company has also released the Gnome Chomsky the Garden NOAM (Version II). This gnome is a tad more elaborate, featuring a gnome sized authoritative pillar, a carved title, and a book atop it. It is also likely a special edition, as it’s a relatively rare item. As with most garden gnomes, the price is a factor, with the unpainted version costing a fraction of the fully painted model.

Even though this gnome has been on the market for more than a decade, it’s still one of the best of its kind. You might not be able to buy this model in the local big box store, but a little online research will give you the answers you need. With a name like Gnome Chomsky the Garden Noam, you’ll be a bit surprised that it isn’t more popular, and that it might be out of stock before you’ve finished reading this article!
